About the Society
The Society for the Study of Christian Ethics is a network of theologians, ethicists, teachers, researchers, clergy, and lay Christians who have special interests in the areas of moral theology, moral philosophy, personal and social ethics, and public policy.
The Society
  • holds an annual weekend conference;
  • sponsors the journal Studies in Christian Ethics;
  • sponsors a postgraduate forum with regular conferences;
  • and maintains a register of members' identities and interests enabling members to identify colleagues who are working in areas similar to their own.
The objectives of the Society are:
  • to encourage and further the study of Christian ethics in its practical and theoretical aspects
  • to strengthen the teaching and learning of ethics as an academic discipline
  • to encourage serious ethical thinking and discussion in the life of the Churches
  • to foster the exercise of Christian social responsibility
  • to hold a Conference and at least one General Meeting of the Society in each calendar year.

The president of the society for 2007-2009 is Dr. Susan Parsons, who is also the editor of Studies in Christian Ethics. Recent former presidents include Professor Nigel Biggar, Professor Peter Harvey, Professor Oliver O'Donovan, Lady Oppenheimer, Professor Duncan Forrester, and Professor Robin Gill.
The committee membership is currently: Jeff Bailey (Secretary), Helen Costigane (Treasurer), Luke Bretherton, Brian Brock, David Cunningham, Guido de Graaff, Andrew Goddard, Anna Poulson, Simon Robinson, Ryan Topping and Bernd Wannenwetsch.
We welcome the participation of those who share these interests. Join the society to be kept informed of our news and events, or come to our annual conference.
